Green Cove Springs is named for exactly what you would hope: a spring that still runs into a public pool beside the St. Johns. That pool and the riverfront park either side of it are the centre of gravity for the whole town, and they are the first thing I take out-of-town buyers to see.
The rest of it is a working county seat — courthouse, a naval-era waterfront with a real industrial history, and a main street that has slowly picked itself back up. It is not a resort town and it does not pretend to be.
